So you need coverage, but the Open Enrollment deadline has passed or isn’t upon us yet. What now?
If you’re not purchasing health insurance during the Open Enrollment period, you may be eligible to sign up for coverage during a Special Enrollment Period. This period is triggered only if you have a qualifying life event. Some examples of life events that might make you eligible to enroll in coverage are:
- Getting married or divorced
- Having or adopting a child
- Losing health care coverage
This list is not inclusive of all the scenarios that might make you eligible for a Special Enrollment Period. Please see the section covering Special Enrollment Periods on HealthCare.gov where you can find detailed information and use their online wizard to see if you qualify.
